چکیده

activation of D1 receptors potentiated glutamate responses, in particular those mediated by NMDA receptors, whereas activation of D2 receptors attenuated glutamate responses, in particular those mediated by AMPA receptors [2] . At the time, the prevailing wisdom was that DA acted as an inhibitory neurotransmitter to depress spontaneous or glutamate-induced firing, although there was evidence for mixed effects which were correctly attributed to different DA receptor subtypes. Thus, the idea that DA functioned as a classical inhibitory neurotransmitter, such as GABA, was challenged. In agreement, the current consensus is that DA acts as a modulator that alters the responses evoked by excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters. Further studies in our laboratory demonstrated the importance of the cAMP-PKA-DARPP-32 cascade in the induction of differential effects by DA in striatal medium-sized spiny neurons (MSNs) [3] . While modulation of voltage-gated currents by DA also played a role in the enhancement of NMDA currents [4] , modulation occured even when voltage-gated currents were blocked [3] . The most parsimonious hypothesis was that the interplay between ligandand voltage-gated currents was responsible for DA receptor-mediated differential effects. To complete the picture, we also demonstrated that DA exIntroduction

The effect of dextromethorphan on apomorphine-induced pecking behavior in chick

Dextromethorphan is an NMDA receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system. Currently, there are some reports showing that the glutamatergic NMDA receptor mechanism stimulates dopamine release from several brain regions. This effect may in part modulate the stereotyped behaviors of dopaminergic system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the interaction between the blockade of NM...

The effect of magnesium and bromocriptine on morphine induced dependence and withdrawal symptoms in mice

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of magnesium as a N-Methyl–D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor Antagnist and bromocriptine as a dopamine receptor agonist on morphine dependence and withdrawal symptoms. In the present study different groups of mice were received morphine (50 mg/kg, i.p.) for four days and on fourth day 1.5 hour after the last morphine administration they received di...

Dopamine and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor interactions in the neostriatum.

This review examines dopamine (DA) and glutamate receptor interactions in the neostriatum (NS) primarily from a neurophysiological perspective. Historically, a clear understanding of the function of DA in the NS has been difficult because it was considered a classical neurotransmitter with either excitatory or inhibitory actions and because many of the data were obtained by use of varying metho...

Direct interactions between NMDA and D1 receptors: a tale of tails.

Considerable evidence has accumulated describing a complex interaction between the dopaminergic and glutamatergic pathways. Efforts to describe the mechanisms underlying this complex interaction have implicated a functional interaction between dopamine and glutamate receptors. Classically, the interaction between D(1) and NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors has been proposed to involve the ac...
